Timothy Lake South CG
We spent 3 nights @ Timothy Lake South in East Stroudsburg, PA (4/8-4/11). Weather was hotter than expected which forced us to make a run to Wal-Mart for some shorts and t-shirts for the kids. There is always an excuse to go to Wal-Mart! The campground was empty in both people and rigs which made for a nice peaceful week.
Our setup in site # 26
The sites were mostly level throughout the park. Almost all of the pull through sites were very narrow but where long. Below are a few shots of some of the pull through sites.
As you can see from above pics, most of the pull through sites are long but narrow. If you put out a slide and your awning, that would be about it.
The park also had a few (I believe 4) "Handicap" sites, but I am still trying to figure out why these particular sites were labeled handicap. There was no special features such as paved site or concrete pad. The only thing that made them "special" was that they were close to the bathrooms. I myself would not consider them handicap sites. As a matter of fact, my son is in a wheelchair and we decided not to take a handicap site because it was no better than any other site in the park. Below are a two of the handicap sites (judge for yourself).
Site #36
Site #35
and speaking of bathrooms, this was about the only downside to this campsite. The bathrooms were very outdated and not well maintained. They did have a handicap shower stall which was nice, but the bathrooms definitely leave a lot to be desired.
Standard Shower Stall (notice shower head on floor...:)
Handicap Shower Stall (good amount of space)
Another shot of the handicap shower stall (nice option for shower head, but not a good option if you are in a wheelchair...better be 6' to reach it)
All in all, the campground was very nice. We plan to visit again this coming summer (2013). The "choice" sites in our opinion were 23-29, 41-50, 6-19. All of these sites were on either Allegheny Lane or Appalachian Trail, but again, this is just our opinion, and everyone has one :). Some sites we would recommend you stay away from are 110-135 and the reason being is they backup to a swampy type area with lots of bugs and loud noises from whatever animals that live in it (my wife seems to think they were frogs, but I never heard a frog sound like that...LOL). On top of the noise, they had no shade whatsoever and in the summer, these will be brutal. Below are some more pictures of the rest of the campground with comments on what they are.
Sites 144-126 which backup to "swamp" and direct sun
Swampy Area
Sites 111 and 112 backup to some kind of equipment (not sure what it is) but this equipment "eats" up most of the site.

As stated above, we liked this campground and will return for sure. Staff was pleasant and they had a constant patrol (what I thought was security patrol) every few hours. Nice facilities (besides the bathroom). The campground store was kind of empty, but I am not sure if this was just because it was early in the season or not. The pool is kind of small, so not sure how packed it will be when the campground is full, but with their other campground (Timothy lake North) having an indoor water park, this should alleviate the crowds. Either way, I would recommend this park to anyone who is looking for a nice getaway in the Poconos and have their own bathroom facilities :). Thanks for reading!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am visiting Timothy Lake South in a few weeks and enjoyed your review. Have you been to any other Thousand Trails campgrounds. My wife and I just purchased our first Trailer and a membership was included. Thanks in advance if you have any insight.
Thanks,
Mike
